Dieting and water weight?

Question: Dieting and water weight?

(Posted by: ready to jump in on 2010-02-08 16:02:54)

I know this sounds silly but this is a real question haha. keep this in mind: "The main thing that is changing overnight is the amount of water in your system. It's amazing how much water weighs! A gallon of water weighs 8 pounds, and a pint of water (16 ounces) weighs 1 pound. This means that if you drink a 1- liter bottle of soda, you instantly gain 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) from the water! " with that being said, i'm now dieting to lose weight. will drinking a lot of water make me gain weight? and if water weighs so much - when i drink a lot of it, wouldn't it only make sense that I would gain weight from it?

Okay - you ARE on the right track about it, but the water does leave your body several times a day to reduce this water weight. Also after you get up in the morning and start moving around your muscles start to warm up and will actually weigh a little more within an hour after getting up - even if you don't eat. These are some of the reasons that you should weigh yourself FIRST thing when you get up. Don't wonder around the house or anything that will warm up your body. Get up, go straight to the scale and weigh yourself without any clothes. This is the most accurate weight you will get. Yes, your weight will slightly fluctuate from day to day. Keep a running record. If you are dieting and working out you will start to see it reduce in the long run. Also recommended is to measure yourself. When you are working out you will gain muscle which weighs more than fat. You might not see much weight coming off, but you may notice inches going down.
