Okay, first of all a 12year old shouldn't be worried about dieting. You're still young and your body is going through changes,it's apart of life. If you really want to lose weight, eat healthier, fruits, vegetables and cut out some junk food. |

At 12 you should not diet the same way as an adult because you are still growing and developing. Since you are young, what you should do is not limit your caloires too much but make the food that you do eat be healthy food. You would even loose weight if you ate the same amount but just choosed healthier versions on what you already eat. Like baked food instead of fried. one percent milk instead of whole (vitamin d) or 2 percent. Dont eat anything super sugary (i.e. almost all food marketed to kids like poptarts, most kid cereal, french toast, go gurt, etc...). Water instead of juice or fruit punch. snack on fruit instead of potato chips or snack cakes. and NO SODA. You might be suprised at how many calories you actually drink. if you drink alot of soda and start having water instead you would drop some weight just from doing that alone... soda is like liquid candy. Also eating less things made from bread and more proteins from lean meat and fruits and vegetables. You would not even have to loose weight to be skinnier because you're getting taller. As you get taller you'll have more places to put the weigt and it'll spread out and you'll get thinner even if you stay the same weight. So just make sure that you're eating right and not alot of junk and you'll streamline in no time. |

You don't "diet, " you start living a healthier life before you turn into a junk food eating yo-yo dieter. I'm not being mean or harsh, just letting you know what will happen if you do a crash, fad diet. Keep away from soda, chips, and too much candy. Eating whole wheat bread and pasta would be a good thing, more importantly eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Just switching from soda to water will make a huge difference. Not only in how you look, but also how you feel. I think the pyramid plan is a good way to learn about eating well, especially for a young person. I'll post a link. Not only is it full of good information, it also has a plan and tracking tools. Seeing how much junk food you eat in a week has more impact than just thinking over the last day and thinking that you haven't had that much. Always remember that the goal isn't to be skinny, per se, it's to be healthy. It's only a nice side effect that living well leads to being thin and having good skin. ;) |

Ugh. I remember first dieting at 10 years old. My parents made me start counting my calories and by noon, I was over 2,000. If you don't do exercise, consume around 1,200 calories per day. I know how you feel. I was 60 pounds overweight when I was 11-12. BTW, if you're having troubles with eating a certain group, take vitamins. They help you get the amount needed in certain food groups. They don't affect your weight in any way though. |

Eat healthy things like salad, fruit, veggies and eat low calorie things for snacks. if possibe eat 6 meals a day (all like little snacks like an apple, a yougurt). Drink lots of water. But make sure to check your BMI (body mass index) -it tells you if your wieght is overweight, average... here's a BMI calculator site : bmicalculatorforfemales.com/ MAKE SURE to check with your dotor to 1. see if you should be dieting. If you are an average weight it could be a disorder like anerexia which is extremley dangerous and should be stopped immideatley if possible 2. How much you should lose (if that is the case) 3. A healthy way for you to lose weight And remember.... if you have to lose weight stay determined and dont give up. Good luck. : ) |

Don't diet! lol your body is still growing and depriving it of ANY nutrients won't help in the future, it will make it worse. Your body needs nutrients to lose weight. My suggestion is stay away from junk food, and make sure you eat full meals and keep an eye on what your putting in. ex: Breakfast -Oj or Milk -A big bowl of cheerios with slices of banana and skim milk - an apple Lunch -I love taking a whole wheat pita bun ans tuffing in with low fat mayo, fresh lettuce, tomato, dill pickle, turkey and having a yogurt and juice with it Supper: Eat at leat one meat, and one helping of vegetables per night and have milk As well, walk when you can, excercide, join a hip hop class, my friend lost lots of weight and is really toned now! and its fun :) Hope it helps :) If you want more advice or someone to help you track and make meals and such, email eviareh@hotmail.com, she knows her stuff :P |
